The LMU Girls Volleyball team dominated the court this year. Despite a crazy playoff lineup of teams ranked higher in the division than our Gators, the team reached the quarterfinals for the first time in 5 years, making history at LMU!
The girls started the playoffs strong with a win against #38 ranked Morris High School in the Bronx.
Then, after losing the first set, the girls rallied back to take down #6 Adams Street, right on their own home court.
After the match, Captain Bella Wailes said, “No one had expected us to go this far, and I am so proud that we made it here, and it is a privilege being on this team.”
The Gators kept the momentum going, with another thrilling victory over #11 Queens Tech, once again coming back from a 1-set deficit on their opponent’s home court.
“I’m speechless,” said coach Josh Heim. “Talk about resilience, we were down and turned it around. I am so proud of this team and how far these girls have come.”
The LMU girls were ranked #27 in their league, and yet they have gone through a tough competition, utilizing a combination of amazing teamwork, perseverance, and school pride, representing our school with the best of the best athletes.
When asked about the team’s success, senior Bojena Frolova said, “Not only are we all great players, but also great teammates and people. LMU volleyball hasn’t made it this far in the playoffs since all of us seniors were in the the grade. I am so proud of every single one of us for improving so much this season.”
While the Gators’ run ended with a hard fought loss to #3 Townsend Harris, the accomplishments of this team have made the LMU community proud. Making a deep playoff run as the 27-seed, pulling off multiple comeback-upsets on the road, this season was truly one to remember.
