Restaurant Reviews: New Burrito on the Block

Listen up, lunch lovers: there’s a new girl in town! Founded by two East Village alums, Electric Burrito brings Southern California-style burritos to a second location in Chelsea. Having ordered from the East Village location many times, I was thrilled with the opening on our street. Today, we give an honest review of this new lunch spot.

Electric Burrito is conveniently located next to Sombo Sushi, at 307 W. 17th St. The interior features lots of exposed brick and framed images of motorcycles and SoCal attractions. There is very limited seating inside due to the long and thin shape of the building, but the stools and tables lining the windows are perfect for the people watchers in all of us. The music is really fun and adds to the welcoming environment.

The staff is very friendly, and the food was ready within about seven minutes. Most burritos range from $8-17, and you can get 2 tacos for $8. There is a variety of drink choices, including fruity sodas, water, and in-house lemonades and teas.

Now onto the meat of this taco: the food review! I went with friends to Electric Burrito and ordered the “Lunch Burrito,” which consisted of bacon, egg, cheese, beans, and french fries wrapped in a flour tortilla. Easily the best breakfast burrito I’ve ever eaten. Everything about it was really satisfying. Having fries inside of a burrito adds a whole other dimension to it, and it amplifies the experience tenfold. If you love breakfast burritos, you NEED to try these, it’s a game changer. The burrito was also massive, totally worth it for the price of $12. When I order from the East Village location, I eat half for dinner and save the other half for another time.

The menu also included classic Mexican burritos, tacos, nachos, and their famous Carne Asada Fries. Senior Abby Gottesman ordered the carnitas tacos and said, “The taco was so good. The pork inside was perfect.” Senior Nova Brent got the chipotle portobello tacos, and her take was that it was really good, but “there’s a little too much mushroom in the taco, so only get it if you really like mushrooms.”

If you’re just going for a quick lunch, the tacos are a perfect portion and really delicious. If you’re going for dinner, the burritos are the way to go. All in all, Electric Burrito is a huge win for NYCMS students who are looking for a delicious meal.
