The Pre-Med Club is making its debut this year. It meets on Wednesdays from 3 to 3:40 p.m. and alternates between rooms 211 and 213. The club was created to help students who are interested in pre-med make connections and understand what people in the medical field do.
This club plans to practice CPR for future meetings, bring in guest speakers who are doctors and surgeons to talk about what they do, go to hospitals to observe what doctors do within them, and teach students about how to get involved in the medical field.
The club’s activities were made to give students useful skills and unique experiences. For example, practicing CPR is very important. While this club won’t give you a certification, it is good practice and a step closer to certification, which helps ensure safety. The guest speakers will also share their insights on their careers, helping students pick what they want to do in the future. All these activities could help students interested in the medical field get into a good medical program after high school.
Learning how to get involved can help students build strong foundations for possible careers. Shehreen Islam, a 9th-grade student who attends the Pre-Med Club, says that she wants to be a cardiologist and believes this club will help her learn more about the medical field. With this club’s supportive community, Islam can share her interests, and people in the club can help her achieve her goal.
Joining the Pre-Med Club could also be beneficial even if you aren’t interested in medicine. Club advisor Ms. Price explained, “It’s important to have some scientific literacy around medicine–even what we learn in high school science builds our ability to advocate for ourselves when in a medical setting. We never know when this knowledge will help us.”
When someone goes to the doctor or the hospital, the knowledge learned from the club can help that person understand what is going on. That person should be able to speak up and share their opinion. You can learn to advocate for yourself by attending the Pre-Med Club.
The Pre-Med Club could be a great resource for students who want to learn more about the medical field. While participating in this club, students can form connections to help them pursue their goals and gain an understanding of certain medical topics to advocate for themselves. If you are interested in medicine or just want to know more about medicine, this might be the club for you.
