Last year, NYC Museum School hosted a schoolwide sports event where all the grades competed with each other. They are doing the same this year. The tournament will begin with the juniors against freshmen, and then the sophomores against seniors. Then, the winners go against each other and then the winner of that goes against the participating staff. The schoolwide sport tournament last year was basketball and it was very intense, as the school saw a lot of good plays from all the grades.
This year, the schoolwide sports event is volleyball. The event is on Thursday December 14, where periods 6, 7, and 8 are taken away from regular class to watch volleyball.
Every grade has good players. For example, the freshmen have a student named Yuma Kohara, who has multiple experiences playing in the sport of volleyball in middle school and outside of middle school, as well. The sophomores have Kevin Chen, a student who has played volleyball previously and is determined to win. The juniors also have a couple of good players, like Averi Bendolph, who played for the school’s Girls Varsity Volleyball team, and Naomi Richardson who played on the Girls varsity Soccer team. Finally the seniors have a few good players, as some seniors who signed up this year were in the volleyball team, as well.
Richardson said: “I’m excited.” Bendolph also shared the enthusiasm as she said,”I think it’s gonna be fun.” Kohara, who’s also going to play in the volleyball tournament said, “I wonder what might the 6th, 7th, and 8th periods do to students who do wish to learn instead of watching the volleyball game?” Kohara voiced concerns about scheduling, with some teachers echoing the same concern. However, Ms. Wynn, the 9th grade English teacher, stated: “Creating a social life is just as important as academics, and it’s just one day.”
